About Radacadabra
The Royal Academy of Dance created Radacadabra (a mixture of the words 'RAD' 'Academy' and 'Abracadabra') as a web site for children from the ages of 5 - 10 who love dance. The rationale for creating a virtual theatre was that we felt it was important to relate learning to dance in a studio to the exciting, magical world of the theatre and the performing arts. Theatres are colourful and sometimes mysterious places, with a language, geography and customs all of their own, and this seemed an ideal way to engage children's interest in dance in a stimulating way.

Helping your child to use Radacadabra
There are a few places on Radacadabra where a parent's/guardian's helping hand may be useful.

If your child has a picture that they would like to appear on the site, please send it
to:

Radacadabra Gallery
Royal Academy of Dance

36 Battersea Square
London SW11 3RA
United Kingdom

We will select the best pictures received, scan them into digital format and upload them on to the gallery area.

Please remember to include your child's name, their age, and the school which they attend. Unfortunately, due to the large volume of mail we receive, we are unable to return your child's picture once it has been received at RAD headquarters. However, if you are very keen to have the picture returned, please remember to enclose a stamped addressed envelope at the time of sending.

Postcards Page
The postcard page should be straightforward to use - just make sure that the email address of the person you are sending the card to is entered accurately. Please note that your child's address is only given for the benefit of the recipient, and is not used or accessed by Radacadabra for any purpose.

Screensaver
Please note that the screensaver is for PC only - it won't work on a Mac. To download a special Radacadabra screensaver to use on your PC, follow these simple instructions:

1. Click on 'download screensaver'
2. When asked whether to 'open' or 'save' the file, select save to disk.
3. You will be prompted for a location on your computer in which to save the file. Choose any folder - but remember where you saved it!
4. Go to the folder where the screensaver file is saved, and double-click on it.
5. A message will come up saying "OK to install screensaver?"
6. Select 'yes'. The Radacadabra screensaver will be automatically installed.
7. To change defaults such as the length of time before the screensaver comes into operation, go to the Control Panel of your computer and select 'Display', and 'Screensaver'.

GREEN ROOM
Guest Book
If your child sends a message to Radacadabra Guest Book, please help them to understand that messages do not go automatically on to the site - they go first to the Radacadabra webmaster, and are monitored before being posted (by the webmaster) on to the site. This means that there may be anything up to a whole working day before messages appear on Radacadabra. By monitoring messages before they are posted, we are able to ensure that content is suitable and appropriate for children. Please also note that messages may be edited depending on space and spellings/punctuation.

The same principle applies to the Jokes Page and Ask Vanessa.

Ask Vanessa
Vanessa is a real person! Your children's questions will be answered by Vanessa Donkin, a registered RAD teacher and ex-professional dancer who not only teaches children, but also appears in Angelina Ballerina in the USA.
