I
just could not wait. We arrived early
on the train from Brighton and when
we got to the university campus I felt
a little nervous but totally in my
element. It felt great after I had
found my room it was lovely and I felt
really independent. I met my chaperones
and they were soooo nice they helped
us do our hair in the mornings and
told us jokes on the coach! The classes
were excellent and repertoire was amazing
we worked on a piece form the nutcracker
for the end of week performance. I
met loads of girls form around the
world who were all really lovely. I
made best friends with an American
and we are pen pals today! At the end
of the week I was really sad I just
can't wait to go again!

"I
went to the RAD Performance Course this
year (2004). It was great to dance with
people from all over the world. I really
enjoyed these two weeks. When we first
arrived at the accommodation, I was very
excited. The next day we met with our
group mates. We had contemporary, classical
ballet, repertoire and choreography.
At the end we did two performances in
the Adeline Genee Studio. I am very happy
to have friends from other countries.
I'll be back this year."

"I
won a scholarship to a Summer School
in 1995 or 96, and I have to say it was
one of the best experiences of my ballet
life. We had a lot of different teachers
and learnt so much about all different
aspects of dance, not just classical
ballet. It was an amazing experience
and I made hundreds of friends from all
corners of the earth. I cannot encourage
young dancers enough to grab the opportunity
and soak up all the information and most
importantly, ENJOY IT!"

"This
was my second year at the RAD summer
school in Battersea Square, London. I
live in Buckinghamshire so it's quite
a long way to come but as I have discovered,
not as far as many girls who come from
all parts of the world!
I stayed at the RAD accommodation in South Kensington and had a cool
room mate called Genevieve. There is a house mother and chaperones who
are very friendly and give you all the support you need if you are homesick.
At
the academy we did: classical ballet;
creative dance; singing; flamenco and
drama. The teachers were really good
and I liked the singing classes best.
In
the evenings we had a disco and went
to see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
What
I like best about the summer school is
that you get to meet girls from all over
the world - America, Australia, Japan,
Spain etc. This year there was a group
of girls from Greece who were really
fun.
At
the end I felt really excited because
I was going to see my parents again!
I really recommend the summer school!!"

“ At
first, when we arrived at Beit Hall in
London for summer school, I was very excited
to see The Royal Albert Hall. We went in
to register and then Mummy and Daddy helped
me to unpack in my room, which I shared
with a girl who was twelve and called Isobel.
I was surprised to see that there was a
kettle and cups in my room as I like a
cup of tea. We went down stairs and then
Mummy and Daddy went. Then we had an introductory
meeting telling us where everything was
and what we would be doing all week. We
also met our chaperones, Shanti and Nisa
who were lovely so I felt happy. Our evening
meal that night was chicken Kiev which
is one of my favourites.
My
classes for the week were:- Contemporary,
Classical Ballet, Group Dance and singing.
We also did some Spanish and Drama workshops
which I enjoyed as well. It was good
fun going on the coach to the RAD everyday.
The highlight of the week for me was going to see Chitty Chitty Bang
Bang at The London Palladium. It was fantastic. We also had a disco one
night which was great fun.
I
loved the Summer School and feel pleased
with myself that I learnt a lot and made
new friends. Also it was good to be independent
for a week but I was exhausted by Saturday
and very pleased to see my Mummy and
Daddy and go home to Suffolk.”
