Elaine Garfitt

Elaine is currently Head of Voluntary Sector Liaison for Surrey County Council. She was previously Head of Development Opportunities for the Council generating income from lottery and other sources for capital and revenue projects.
She has experience of teaching and examining dance and theatre studies. Elaine taught dance at primary, secondary, further and higher education level from 1982 to 1999. During that period she also worked in a number of youth services to develop dance and arts provision.
Between 1989 and 1999 she established Surrey Dance Project as a respected county-wide dance resource promoting dance opportunities for young people, teachers and communities. During that period she also taught on the Dance in Society degree course at the University of Surrey, and supported students on their professional placements. She was a Member of the Board of South East Dance for four years and chaired the Finance and General Purposes Committee until 2002.
