Richard Thom (YDE Company Secretary)

Richard Thom joined the Royal Academy of Dance in 1988 and was appointed Director of Finance and Administration in 1991. Graduating with an Honours degree in Business and Administration from the University of Portsmouth, he went on to acquiring his FCA, Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 1982.
During the late 70’s and mid-80’s Richard worked for the Inchcape Group of Companies in Tokyo and Guam, in financial managerial positions, as well as for ARAMCO in Saudi Arabia.
From 1991, he has been active with the Council of Dance Education and Training, acting as Treasurer, Chairman of the Registration Board and a member of the Societies’ Board.
He has published From Ballet to Business (1999), and written articles for both Dancing Times and the Dance Gazette on Buying and Selling a School, Budgeting and managing schools; and in 1998 he wrote an article for National Westminster Bank Plc, Taking the lead in International Payments.
